This is only a guide. Optimal feeding amounts may vary according to your dog’s temperament, activity level and environment. If you have any questions regarding your pet’s health, please contact your veterinarian.
We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.
Aside from allergies causing skin hot spots in March/April of each year, Delta has been perfectly healthy with excellent and consistent stools. Also importantly - Delta loves his food and we even use it for training and treats. I truly hope the price will not increase any more than it already has as you have a loyal customer in us!
Very sad about this.
Tbh…i think it’s because of this product has less protein than most of dog foods. For other people who also has golden retrievers, any dog food that is above 50% protein may will cause some stupid butt issues…
The only complaining i have for this product is this is overpriced. If i feed my dog as the recommend amount of food everyday this whole bag might only last for about 10 days. So i have to mix with rice and chicken when i feed my dog just to save some budget.
Pros:
Seems to be made of quality ingredients
Dog loves it
Good portion size
Consistency is good
Cons:
It was a little more dry than I like as it wasn't the easiest to get all of it out of the can
Overall, it is a solid option for my awesome pooch.
3.5 stars, rounding up to 4.
The dog who loved it simply scarfed it up. The other one let it go until it was clear that it was dinner. Then he finally ate it.
Good ingredients. No unpleasant intestinal issues.
Won't get it in the future just because only one dog likes it, but your dog may love it.
Other than that, my dog scarfs this down and seems to like it. He doesn't seem to mind. The color of this dog food is pretty plain, which is a good thing because there are no artificial colourings or flavorings in this.
These cans also have lift the Tab lids, which makes it easier to open and you don't need a can opener. Convenient.
So - looking at the ingredients:
Water sufficient for processing, pork by-products, chicken by-products, pork liver, brewers rice flour, corn flour, powdered cellulose, wheat gluten, vegetable oil, fish oil, carrageenan, sodium silico aluminate, natural flavors, potassium chloride, tomato pomace, taurine, carob bean gum, guar gum, sodium tripolyphosphate, vitamins [DL-alpha tocopherol acetate (source of vitamin E), L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), biotin, niacin supplement, D-calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, folic acid, vitamin D3 supplement], calcium carbonate, L-carnitine, citric acid, glucosamine hydrochloride, sodium carbonate, trace minerals [zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, zinc proteinate, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, sodium selenite, calcium iodate], magnesium oxide, choline chloride, marigold extract (Tagetes erecta L.), chondroitin sulfate.
Pork *by-products*. Chicken *by-products*. By-products are the cheap way to add animal proteins. Then pork liver. Then Brewers Rice Flour and Corn Flour (a cheap way to add carbs) and Powdered Cellulose. Powdered Cellulose is minuscule pieces of wood pulp and plant fibers. YUCK! Other than its fiber content, powdered cellulose lacks any nutritional contribution.
I've read a LOT of feed labels. And I have to say this one is quite disappointing. Given the price, MEAT should be the first ingredients.
I will be giving this as a topper to my pup...and watching her skin like a hawk. If she breaks out again I'll come back and update my review. Happy Shopping.
I offered it to a neighbor's dog (lab mix) and they ate it - so it could just be my ridiculously diva dog being her picky self when it comes to the flavor. She took a sniff and a suspicious lick and promptly avoided it altogether until I removed it from her bowl. So...I guess some dogs may like it while others may not. YMMV.
The dog we got this for wouldn't touch it. And even when I scraped it off her plate and gave her something else ... the residue of this Royal Canin dogfood that was left, she ate around and wouldn't touch. Interesting.
I ended up taking this outside, as we have two Analtolian Pyrenees dogs.. I figure waste not want not. THEY ate it, no problems. Oh and one of my cats came and stole it from one of them. So Golden Retriever approved? Maybe not. Will other dogs eat it? In our case yes.
Better than most ingredients base from a trusted brand. This is the brand our vet recommends and we have a little kitty on the Royal Canin Urinary dry food. Would we repurchase? Probably not since the intended dog would not touch it.
And my dogs ok with that. So I think I will keep buying it. The bags are really heavy for me. But worth the price.
It’s much bigger than I expected... I felt they look like treats.
Fortunately, she fell in love with this without any transition process.
She used to have Merick since she was a puppy (free feeding). Recently, she lost her appetite. Visited vet, nothing problem found.
We changed her food to this one,
And,
She’s back to the normal dog (who can’t wait to eat for meal time and no more free feeding! She seems she can finish the whole bag!)
I asked to the vet dr just in case, and she said,
“Oh, I feed my dog Royal Canin!”
Ha!
This is it.
This even works better than normal treats for her rewards.
I like that the kibble is large pieces so it slows her down for inhaling her food .
The food smell is not the greatest but it’s not so awful either .
I don’t think I plan on changing her food . Very satisfied with this brand and breed specific food .
Despite its cost, I highly recommend for this breed.
Always read instructions. Consult with your vet for you feeding volume per day as it needs to be taylored to your individual dog. (eg don't use the reccomended amount for your dogs size on the bag.
Please read up on the dangers of some of the added vitamins and minerals in many dog foods.
They are making our pets sick .
and food smells very good too. but it's kind of big bite ..
I like it because she loves it no matter what
I'm not quite ready to see if it will grow hair on me tho! ...and no, not on my rump.
I cannot stress enough the importance of feeding your dog the right food. It does not matter if it is a mixed breed, pure breed, working dog, rescued dog, or champion in the show ring…the right food will not only maximize your dog's health, it will save you money and tears in the long run.
The biscuits are large and our dog eats fast. I wish the biscuits were about half the size they are. But he never seems
to have a problem gulping it down. We feed 1 3/4 cups in morning and same in evening. Keeps the dog at proper weight. Seems to be a high quality food and is used well by the dog. The waste you pick up is soooo much less than the cheap dog food. Seems a bit pricy, but takes less per day than the cheap stuff. So total cost is really no more expensive overall. But price at Amazon
is less than the major pet stores. The shipping service by Amazon is great. On prime shipping it does arrive on doorstep in 2 days. Always amazed by that. Well done!!
