Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian.
A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food.
And this small size kibble is easy for her to chew.
I bought "small kibble" types before but really were not that small.... this one is small!
My dog has been on this food brand forever she’s 9 now and still lovin it
just wished it was a little less expensive.
This food is great because it doesn't contain the things he's allergic to and is not too fatty for my 13 year old dog. I've been buying this dog food for the past 3 years now and have noticed a significant burst in his energy compared to his old food. He travels the world with me and deserves the best!
10/10 recommend!
It!!
I just cant believe the COST for dog food over the past few years... We might have to start taking the dogs out for a steak and lobster dinner just to save some money! ;)
My border collie, she never had an issue with this brand, and continued to eat this kind after we switched from Adult to Senior. My Whippet really likes this food, too, and she eats about once a day, whereas she used to eat about once every 3 days.
I highly recommend it, both of my puppies have never had weight issues, even with being indoor dogs so most of their life has been spent on the couch.
Pellets seem a tad big for small dogs. Quality seems ok, hopefully this is authentic Hills after reading others’ reviews 😬
As a fellow dog lover, I’m thrilled to share my glowing review of Hill’s Science Diet Dry Dog Food for Senior Dogs. Let’s break it down with some bullet points:
Tail-Wagging Approval: My senior dogs go bananas (pun intended!) for this food! Their tails wag with excitement during mealtime, and they eagerly gobble up every bite. The small bites are perfect for their aging teeth.
Health and Vitality: Since switching to Hill’s Science Diet, I’ve witnessed a remarkable transformation in their overall health. They have more energy than ever, and their coats are shinier and softer. It’s like they’ve found the fountain of youth!
Easy Digestion: As dogs age, their digestive systems become more sensitive. This dog food is gentle on their stomachs, and I’ve noticed a significant reduction in any tummy troubles they used to have.
Balanced Nutrition: Hill’s Science Diet provides a well-rounded blend of nutrients. The chicken meal, barley, and brown rice recipe offer high-quality protein, essential vitamins, and minerals. Plus, the omega-6 fatty acids contribute to healthy skin and coat.
Veterinarian Recommended: Hill’s Science Diet is veterinarian-recommended, which gives me confidence that I’m providing the best for my senior companions.
In summary, Hill’s Science Diet has been a game-changer for my senior dogs. They’re happier, healthier, and more active than ever. If you want to see your furry friends thrive, give this dog food a try! 🐾🐶
Note: Always consult your veterinarian before making any dietary changes for your pets
The only thing I didn't like was that it was shipped just like that. It wasn't in a box or other bag or anything. It was left on the ground in front of my door. Luckily another animal didn't get at it. It did have a little rip in it, but it didn't spill out any food. I just don't like the fact that it can easily be tampered with or ripped open during shipment. My dog is very important to me and I"m an overprotective fur-mama. Therefore, I would buy this again, but unless they put it in another package or box, I don't think I will buy from here.
I used to only buy IAMS Eukanuba for my dogs, but I think my GSD literally got kidney failure right when they were recalled-so never again.
Hill's is the Best. I know everyone is like No Grain! But Hill's Science Diet has kept my dog healthy for a really long time. Praise God! And I will only buy this for him-as in forever.
The price is economical and it stays fresh and lasts a long time. His coat is healthy and soft.
The little kibbles are great for him because he has tiny little teeth and I feel like the bigger kibbles are too much for him. He gets really excited to eat it, but to be fair, I do also add a bit of a topper as well. Like home cooked lean chicken and plain white rice. Something nice :)
If my dog could write this review he might say something like, "when's Dinner?" or "Keep it comin!"-or if I am late getting his dinner ready he will come up to me and put his paw on me as in, "Do you realize I should be eating Hill's Science Diet Right now!" Anyway, We- I mean I-highly recommend Hill's Science Diet for all of your beloved furry family members-I feed my dog better than I feed myself some days- too much info? Just Buy it :) Dog's Love it!
P.s.-Barley is not a bad food source. Rice & Grain can be super healthy too!
I subscribe to it because the label sounds good and Hen likes so that is good enough for me.
As for me, I love that the bag has Velcro so it closes nicely and stays fresh.
Even with this said, I am happy with this diet because to hey are happy with it and stools are healthy, easily digestion, and have do far maintained a healthy weight, joints are pain free and even my finicky guy loves the flavor.
I decided to try switching up his diet to see if it would help, and if in 6 month's time, things weren't getting better then we would do what the vet wanted. First change I made is that I cut back almost all treats...this was hard for my pup and I, b/c I loved giving him table scraps and he loved it as well. But I found that rewarding him with walks and a lot of play time was a way we both felt better about that change. Second thing I did was scour the internet for research on diets required for dogs with liver issues, and found that it needed to be lower in animal protein, and low in copper.
I looked up so many reviews, and read so many labels, and finally decided to try this one. I love that the kibble bites are smaller so that for old and small dogs like my little guy, it helped a lot since he could eat easily without having to bite through large kibble. He LOVED this food. He ate it with gusto, and 6 months later his liver enzyme tests were coming down and showing positive change. We kept at it, and at a year's mark, his vet said that not only were his liver enzymes fully normal but that it didn't even look like he had any liver damage before. Had he not had the years of old tests in his system, he said he would have doubted that my dog ever had liver issues based on recent tests.
I'm not a doctor or a vet, so it's possible that it wasn't the dog food that helped, but other than that and cutting out treats, there were no other changes we made. In the early months of our venture, I was giving him doggie liver enzyme support tablets that I bought from Vitamin Shoppe but I cut those out after only a few weeks because I noticed that the tablets were making him throw up more.
I will say that he doesn't seem to like this food if it's been sitting in the plastic bag for a long time. He would avoid eating it, and would sometimes go over 24 hours without eating...until I bought a doggie food canister that was stainless steel and large enough to hold the small bag of this food. Since then, he never misses a meal and makes sure he eats everything in his bowl. I am guessing that after storing it in the bag for awhile, it might taste plasticky, but that's purely a guess. :)
The only thing I'd change about it is the kibble is too dense for my oldest dog to chew without soaking it first. It would be nice if it was crispier vs crunchy.
